I glanced at my hands gripping the steering wheel.

They were a little paler now than after I’d fed on Shelly and I noticed for the first time my energy levels were much lower than before I’d fought the vampire gang. I felt like a smackhead coming down from mainlining heroin. I could still function but was suffering. In a few hours though I’d be so sick I wouldn’t be able to walk let alone fight off vampires.

All of this raced through my mind in an instant but didn’t help me answer Judy’s question. I knew the truth might scare her but I thought she had a right to know who she was sharing a car with.
